Creatine Kinase (CK)

Creatine Kinase (CK) is an enzyme found primarily in skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and the brain. Measuring CK activity in plasma or serum provides a useful laboratory marker for detecting muscle injury and disease.

Clinical Significance

• Helps detect and evaluate skeletal muscle disorders and damage.

• CK measurement can support the assessment of myocardial injury, including myocardial infarction.

• May also be useful in the evaluation of cerebrovascular accidents.

• Elevated CK levels generally indicate cellular or tissue damage, particularly involving muscle tissue.
