UIBC 125
UIBC
Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity (UIBC) is used to assess iron-binding status and is closely related to total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) and transferrin saturation.
In iron deficiency, serum iron is typically low while TIBC increases, resulting in low transferrin saturation. In iron overload conditions, such as hemochromatosis, serum iron is elevated and TIBC may be low or within the normal range, leading to increased transferrin saturation. UIBC may be measured as an alternative to TIBC when evaluating iron status.
