C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

The C-Reactive Protein (CRP) test is a blood test that measures the level of CRP, a protein produced in response to inflammation. Elevated CRP levels can occur with infections and various inflammatory or long-term diseases.

Clinical Significance

• Detects infection after surgery: CRP normally rises within 2–6 hours after surgery and generally decreases by the third day. Persistently elevated levels may indicate a possible infection.

• Monitors inflammation: Helps identify and monitor infections and conditions associated with inflammation and assess how the condition responds over time.
