Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) is an enzyme primarily associated with the liver and biliary system. Measuring GGT levels can provide useful information when evaluating liver and bile duct function.

Clinical Significance

Elevated GGT levels may be observed in various forms of liver disease and obstructive jaundice. Increased levels can also occur with the use of certain substances and medications, including alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers.
