Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH)

Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme found in almost all body cells. When cells are damaged or destroyed, LDH is released into the blood, making it a useful general marker of tissue and cellular injury.

Clinical Significance

LDH testing is a non-specific test used in the evaluation of various diseases and conditions. Elevated LDH levels may indicate tissue damage and can also be measured in body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluid and pleural fluid when certain diseases are suspected.
