Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in energy production, muscle contraction, nerve function, and maintaining healthy bones. It is obtained through the diet and absorbed primarily through the small intestine and colon, with most of the body's magnesium stored in the bones, cells, and tissues.

Only about 1% of total body magnesium is normally present in the blood, so serum magnesium levels may not fully reflect total body magnesium stores. However, magnesium testing is useful for evaluating an individual's magnesium status and identifying potential abnormalities.
